LIFE IS A GAME OF CHANCE
TO LIVE IS TO GAMBLE
LIFE IS A GAMBLE
TO PLAY I S TO LIVE
TO LIVE IS TO PLAY
LIFE IS ART
ART IS LIFE
LIFE IS RANDOM!
ART IS RANDOM
RANDOM IS LIFE
RANDOM IS RANDOM
HOW RANDOM IS RANDOM
IS RANDOM REALLY RANDOM ?
I see art as an enhanced and distorted mirror of reality. I'm interest in the ability of art to allow us to look at reality with curious, skeptical, and playful eyes. A universal and inclusive language that through the act of making tangible experiences, allow us to notice aspects of reality we were not aware of, and allow us to raise questions, and also to get closer to the answers of those questions. I see art as playful (but also serious) philosophy trough action. Also a vehicle of free expression, that also serve as a stimuli to generate thinking and debate, and sometimes social and cultural change.
As an artist I identify myself with the idea of Inter-media. I see art as a bridge between different disciplines or areas of knowledge. The goal of art as I like to see it, is to create interdisciplinary dialogue to raise questions and awareness in the audience and in the artist, about different parts of reality, while also searching for shocking aesthetic experiences that will make our minds and hearts vibrate. I believe that art should shake our minds through a balance of the aesthetic impact and a conceptual richness behind it.
I see art as a vehicle that drive us from the common, from what we think we know, to the unexpected and unknown. As a state of mind and action that take us to other universes, that sometimes touch us and triggers change in us and society.
The purpose of this servant of chance, is to try to walk into the mysteries of chance. Setting the rules of play for different small playful universes. Playing with different means used to produce unpredictable results, or what people call “random outcomes”. Revealing the nature of each method, and the subtleties of what we label as random. Looking for the expected and the unexpected.
To play the game, and then stand back and see how things went. To see the outcomes of these different games or experiments, becoming part of the spectators that try to make sense of them. To observe what we call random results or chance. Keeping the eyes and mind open in hope to get closer to answering the ultimate question:
Is the script of this play random? or we assume it is because we just can’t connect the dots to explain it’s complexity?
But, as this is clearly impossible, or at least for now, the idea is also to enjoy the beauty/ugliness produced by chance. To marble with all the surprises that only the use of random generation processes can offer. I’m fascinated with the in between space between chaos and order. The distance between freedom of choice or chance, and determinism.
So let’s see how random things can get to be. Let’s forget about total control and jump into different universes of uncertainty.
WELCOME TO THE ART & CHANCE LAB!
iterate, iterate, fail, iterate, fail, iterate, iterate, fail, fail, fail, succeed, iterate, iterate, success, iterate, iterate, iterate, iterate, iterate, iterate, iterate, fail, iterate, succeed, fail, fail, fail, iterate!
KEEP FAILING, BUT BETTER! I
